Up next in our Entertaining mini-series, we are talking about the art of gathering beautifully and creating a welcoming seasonal tabletop. Whether a small gathering or a house full of family and friends, setting the stage for a memorable event often revolves around the table and a shared meal.
In true Town & Country style, we looked toward nature and classic design to create this year’s fall table. We are feeling a strong pull from nature and earthly tones, which are reflected in our design and plan for Holiday gatherings. Taking inspiration from the bounty of the season; spiced nuts, game birds, and sweet and savory dishes made of the fall harvest, all came to mind when considering this year’s entertaining.
If you are entertaining outdoors, we encourage you to bring the indoor comforts outdoors. Roll up the living room rug and grab the dining room chairs and bring them outside. If you love the look and feel of having rugs in a space, this could be the perfect chance to invest in an indoor/outdoor rug that you may use for years to come for alfresco meals and leisure spaces outdoors. Here we chose a traditional indoor tufted wool rug with warm spice tones to add an ultra cozy foundation to our table scape. An assortment of seating, like benches mixed with chairs offer a bit of eclectic charm.
We know that a centerpiece is an important part of setting a table. This year we layered brass and bronze candlesticks, both modern and vintage styles, effortlessly around the table. Adding a simple glass vessel adorned with assorted natural grasses, twigs, and pheasant feathers created a simple, yet stunning, focal point.
We continued the theme at each guest’s place setting by dressing the earthy green linens with feathers and our natural horn and leather napkin ties. We chose to stick with layers of white in the linens and dishware, this low contrast makes for a beautiful backdrop to the assortment of food that will be enjoyed! Our favorite hand-thrown pottery dishware is classic enough for everyday, but special enough for more formal settings and pairs beautifully with the crisp white linen tablecloth.
Thinking beyond the traditional Thanksgiving dishes, the menu for our Fall tabletop focuses on comfort foods. Raised stands work well to elevate serving dishes, making them easier to get to for seconds!
